Peanut Butter Cookies, JIF - Master Cookbook Recipe # 355

These cookies are the gold standard for peanut butter lovers,perfectly balanced, soft, and featuring those iconic fork-press marks. While flourless versions are popular, these traditional cookies remain an all-time favorite in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Jif creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup Crisco all-vegetable shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda

Instructions

  1. Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Jif peanut butter, shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until the mixture is well blended and smooth.
  3. Add Egg: Add the egg and beat until just incorporated.
  4. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda. Blend well until a soft dough forms.
  5. Shape: Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. The Classic Mark: Use the tines of a fork to press a crisscross pattern into the top of each cookie, flattening them slightly.
  7. Bake: Bake for 8 minutes or until the edges are just set (do not overbake!).
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
