Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour (White Lily recommended!)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup milk
- 1 Tbsp salted butter, melted (for the dough)
- Extra butter for brushing the tops
Instructions
- Mix: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, mayonnaise, milk, and 1 Tbsp of melted butter.
- Knead: Sprinkle some extra flour over the dough and gently fold it over a few times until it's easy to handle.
- Shape: Flour your hands and pinch off sections to roll into approximately 2-inch balls (or use a biscuit cutter).
- Prepare: Place the biscuits close together in a greased iron skillet or on a baking sheet.
- First Bake: Bake at 500°F (or 450°F as shown in the video) for 15 minutes.
- Finish: Remove from the oven and brush the tops generously with melted butter. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes until golden and toasty.
- Crispy Bottom Tip: Flip the biscuits upside down as soon as they come out of the oven to keep the bottoms from sweating and staying nice and crispy!
Notes
Pro Tip from Tammy: Check your mayonnaise ingredients! If it contains garlic, these make excellent dinner biscuits, but for a classic breakfast taste, stick with Blue Plate or Duke's.
