Sour Cream Biscuits - Master Cookbook Recipe # 110

These Sour Cream Biscuits are just as tangy, rich, and fluffy as the traditional version. By cutting the butter into the flour and folding in creamy sour cream, you get a biscuit that is remarkably soft. They are the perfect solution for a "20-minute big breakfast" that the whole family will love.

This is recipe #110 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Self-rising flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 16 oz. Sour cream
  • 1/2 cup Salted butter (room temperature)
  • Shortening (for greasing the pan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 500°F. This high heat is key to getting that perfect golden-brown crust. Grease a baking pan thoroughly with shortening.
  2. Cut in Butter: In a large bowl, mix the self-rising flour and room-temperature butter. Use a blending fork or pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour until the pieces are about the size of small peas.
  3. Add Sour Cream: Stir in the sour cream. Mix until all the flour is fully incorporated and a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead & Fold: Lightly dust your countertop with flour and turn the dough out onto it. Sprinkle a little more flour on top of the dough. Gently knead and fold the dough 4 to 7 times. Be careful not to overwork it; you just want it to come together smoothly.
  5. Shape & Cut: Pat the dough down until it is about 1 inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out your rounds.
  6. Bake: Arrange the biscuits in the greased pan, placing them close together so they "climb" each other and stay moist. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the tops are a beautiful golden brown.

Notes

  1. Pro Tip: Placing them close together in the pan helps them rise higher and keeps the edges soft!

Why you'll love them: These have the same delicious "bite" as a buttermilk biscuit but with an even richer texture thanks to the sour cream and butter combo. Enjoy!
