Ingredients
- 1 1/4 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or 2 Tbsp)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup salsa (Herdez brand recommended)
- 8 oz. can crescent roll sheet dough (or rolls pressed together)
- 1 1/2 cups crushed corn chips, divided
- 8 oz. carton sour cream
- 6 slices American cheese (or 8 oz. shredded Mexican blend)
- Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced black olives (for topping/optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Simmer: Stir in the taco seasoning, water, and salsa. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Layer the Pie: In a baking dish, layer the ingredients in this order:
- Half of the seasoned meat mixture.
- 1 cup of the crushed corn chips.
- The remaining meat mixture.
- The sour cream (spread evenly).
- Black olives (if using) and the slices of cheese.
- The remaining 1/2 cup of crushed corn chips.
- Add the Crust: Roll out the crescent dough sheet. Press any perforated edges together and fit it carefully over the top of the casserole.
- Bake: Place in a preheated 350°F oven for 40 minutes, or until the crescent crust is beautifully golden brown.
- Serve: Slice into portions and top with fresh shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes.
Notes
Tip: If you can't find corn chips, tortilla chips work too, but corn chips (like Fritos) provide a much bolder flavor that really stands out against the buttery crust!
