Ingredients
- The Base:
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 3 cups cabbage, shredded
- The Flavor:
- 1 or 2 Tbsp. taco seasoning
- 1 cup salsa (Tammy uses Herdez brand)
- The Finish:
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- For Serving: Cornbread or Tortilla Chips
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain off the excess grease.
- Season: Add the salsa and taco seasoning to the beef. Stir well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the spices and salsa.
- Steam the Cabbage: Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and mix it in with the beef.
- Simmer: Cover the skillet with a tight-fitting lid. Turn your burner to the lowest setting and let it cook for 20 minutes. This allows the cabbage to become tender while soaking up all that taco flavor.
- The Cheesy Finish: Remove the lid and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it's melted and creamy.
- Serve: Serve it up immediately while it's hot! It's delicious on its own, but also goes great with a side of cornbread or some crunchy tortilla chips.
Notes
Tammy’s Tip: This is such a versatile recipe! If you like things a little spicier, you can use a "hot" salsa or add a few extra red pepper flakes when you add the taco seasoning.
