Ingredients
- 1 large, sweet onion
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (divided)
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp buttermilk
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 Tbsp paprika
- 1-1/2 tsp seafood seasoning
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Cooking oil spray
Instructions
- Prep the Onion: Use the cutting tips below to "bloom" your onion.
- Initial Flour Coat: Coat the prepared onion in a portion of the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Egg Wash: In a bowl, beat the eggs and buttermilk together. Thoroughly coat the onion in the egg mixture. Season with salt, pepper, and the seafood seasoning.
- Breading: In a separate bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, the remaining flour, and the paprika. Evenly coat the onion petals with this mixture, ensuring it gets into the crevices.
- Air Fry (Phase 1): Spray your air fryer basket with cooking oil. Place the onion in the basket, cut side up. Cook at 390°F for 10 minutes.
- Air Fry (Phase 2): Spray the onion again with cooking spray to help it crisp. Lower the temperature to 350°F and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve: Best enjoyed hot with Recipe #3, Horsey Dipping Sauce!
