This is recipe #300 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. Italian sausage (Swaggerty’s Farm)
- 1 lb. ground chuck
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, pressed
- 1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 Tbsp. beef bouillon granules
- 28 oz. can crushed tomatoes
- 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
- 1 lb. spaghetti or angel hair pasta
- 8 oz. grated cheese (your choice, like cheddar or monterey jack)
- 8 oz. mozzarella cheese, grated
- To taste: salt and olive oil
- Garnish: Parmesan cheese and parsley
Instructions
- Cook Pasta: Boil the pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse with water to stop the cooking process.
- Brown Meats: In a large skillet with a splash of olive oil, brown the sausage and ground chuck. Drain the excess fat and set the meat aside.
- Sauté Veggies: In the same skillet, sauté the chopped pepper and onion until softened.
- Simmer Sauce: Add the cooked meat back to the skillet along with the garlic, Italian seasoning, bouillon, crushed tomatoes, and diced tomatoes. Stir well to combine.
- Mix: Combine the cooked pasta and the meat sauce in the large pot used for boiling the pasta. Mix thoroughly, then stir in the two cups of your choice of shredded cheese.
- Bake: Pour the mixture into a well-greased, deep lasagna baking dish. Top with the mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of parsley.
- Finish: Bake at 350°F for 60 minutes or until the casserole is hot and bubbly. Serve with extra Parmesan and garlic bread.
Notes
Tammy’s Tips Rinsing the pasta with water helps keep the strands separate, ensuring the sauce coats every piece evenly without it becoming a solid block. If you prepare this dish ahead of time and pull it from the fridge, remember it will need a little extra time in the oven to get heated all the way through!
