Ingredients

  • The Meat & Produce:
  • 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef (ground chuck)
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • The "Secret" Ingredients:
  • 8 oz. jar marinated Italian mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp of the juice from the marinated mushroom jar
  • Seasonings:
  • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp salad blend seasoning (no-salt type)
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • The Sauce Base:
  • 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp beef bouillon granules mixed with 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet, sauté the onion, bell pepper, garlic, Italian seasoning, and salad blend seasoning until the vegetables are tender. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Brown the Beef: Add a tablespoon of olive oil to the same skillet and brown the ground chuck until no pink remains. Drain the excess grease (do not rinse the meat).
  3. Combine: Add the sautéed vegetables back into the skillet with the beef. Stir in the diced tomatoes.
  4. Whisk & Add Liquid: In a 2-cup measuring cup, whisk together the tomato paste and the beef bouillon water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet.
  5. Final Seasoning: Add the salt, pepper, chopped marinated mushrooms, mushroom juice, and sugar.
  6. Slow Simmer: Cover the pan and simmer on low for 1 hour. This allows all those "secret" flavors to meld together perfectly.
  7. Serve: Ladle over your favorite spaghetti noodles.

Notes

Tammy’s Tip: If you have the time, make this a day in advance! Letting it sit in the refrigerator overnight allows the seasonings to really soak into the meat and mushrooms for an even deeper flavor.
