Ukranian Goulash - Master Cookbook Recipe # 89

Ingredients
- The Meat:
- 1-1/2 to 2 lb. boneless beef chuck, cubed (or ground beef)
- The Sauce Base:
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 Tbsp. butter or olive oil
- 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 Tbsp. Knorr beef bouillon granules
- The Spices & Flavor:
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp caraway seed
- 1/2 tsp dill weed
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp dry mustard
- 1/8 tsp basil
- The Finish:
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- Hot buttered noodles (cooked per package directions)
Instructions
- Combine: Place the beef chuck (or ground beef), chopped onion, butter, tomato sauce, water, and all the spices and seasonings into your slow cooker.
- Slow Cook: Cover and cook on High for 4 to 6 hours, or until the beef is incredibly fork-tender and the sauce has developed its rich flavor.
- Finish: Just before serving, stir in the sour cream until well incorporated and the sauce is creamy.
- Serve: Generously ladle the goulash over a bed of hot, tender buttered noodles.
Notes
Tammy’s Tip: The caraway seed and dill weed are the "secret" ingredients here,they give this goulash its authentic Ukrainian flair! If you’re using cubed chuck, the long slow cook time is essential to make that meat melt-in-your-mouth tender.
