Ingredients

  • The Sauce:
  • 1 lb. ground chuck, browned & drained
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 8 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 14.5 oz. can petite diced tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 2 tsp McCormick Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp Badia roasted garlic powder
  • The Cheese Layer:
  • 16 oz. Ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 1/2 tsp McCormick Italian seasoning
  • The Pasta:
  • 1 box no-boil (oven-ready) lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Prepare Meat Sauce: Brown the ground chuck with the chopped onion in a large skillet. Drain off the excess grease. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, pressed garlic, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Simmer on low-medium heat for about 10 minutes.
  2. Prep Noodles: Even though these are "oven-ready" noodles, for the best texture, boil them for just 5 minutes in water with 1 tsp of salt, then drain.
  3. Mix Cheeses: In a medium bowl, combine the Ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, and the 1 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning. Mix well.
  4. Assemble: Spray a 2.5 qt. baking dish with cooking spray. Spread a small amount of sauce on the bottom. Add a layer of noodles, followed by a layer of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used.
  5. Top & Bake: Finish with a final layer of fresh grated mozzarella and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Bake at 350°F for 60 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

Tammy’s Tips "For a more authentic Italian flavor, try using half a pound of ground beef and half a pound of Italian sausage!" If you decide to skip boiling the "oven-ready" noodles entirely, just be sure to add 1 cup of water to your sauce mixture so the noodles have enough moisture to soften while baking.
