Favorite Fudge Frosting - Master Cookbook Recipe # 417
This decadent, old-fashioned fudge frosting is a family favorite! It creates a smooth, glossy finish that thickens into a rich, fudge-like consistency as it cools, making it the perfect companion for a moist chocolate or yellow cake.
This is recipe #417 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.
Ingredients
- 8 cups powdered sugar
- 3/4 cup Hershey’s cocoa
- 3/4 cup water (or evaporated milk for a milk chocolate version)
- 1 1/2 sticks salted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prep Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, salt, and cocoa.
- Heat Liquid Ingredients: In a microwave-safe measuring cup, combine the water (or milk) and butter. Microwave until the mixture reaches a rolling boil.
- Combine: Carefully pour the hot liquid mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until smooth and well-combined.
- Finish: Add the vanilla extract and give it one final mix.
- Ice Immediately: Pour or spread the frosting over your cake right away. This icing is designed to thicken and set quickly as it cools.
Notes
Tammy’s Tips Make sure your liquid mixture is truly boiling before adding it to the sugar to ensure a silky-smooth texture without any graininess. If you're looking for an extra rich flavor, using evaporated milk instead of water adds a wonderful creamy depth that tastes just like a high-end milk chocolate.
