Easy Chocolate Frosting - Master Cookbook Recipe # 235

This is the perfect companion to the Mississippi Mud Cake. It’s a quick, rich, and velvety chocolate frosting that pours beautifully over a layer of gooey marshmallows. The addition of crunchy pecans gives it that classic Southern texture and flavor.

This is recipe #235 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Combine: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the cocoa, salt, and powdered sugar.
  2. Mix: Add the melted salted butter and the evaporated milk. Stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  3. Finish: Fold in the chopped pecans.
  4. Frost: Spread the frosting immediately over the top of your cake (ideally while the cake and marshmallows are still warm) to create that iconic "muddy" look.

Notes

Tammy's Tip: If you're using this for the Mississippi Mud Cake, make sure to pour it right over the marshmallows while they are still soft from the oven heat. It helps everything meld together into one delicious layer!
