Ingredients
- The French Toast Base:
- 1" Large gourmet cinnamon rolls (sliced in half)
- 1-1/2 cups Milk
- 3 Large eggs (whisked)
- 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
- Salted butter (for the skillet)
- Cinnamon sugar (Ratio 4:1 to 4 Tbsp sugar to 1 Tbsp cinnamon)
- The Cream Cheese Spread:
- 4 oz. Cream cheese (room temperature)
- 3 Tbsp Salted butter (room temperature)
- 1 cup Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Egg Wash: Whisk the milk, eggs, and cinnamon together. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish, like a pie plate, for easy dipping.
- Prep the Rolls: Slice your gourmet cinnamon rolls in half. Scrape off most of the icing from the tops before dipping (save it or discard so it doesn't burn).
- The Dip: Submerge a roll slice into the egg mixture, flip, and repeat so both sides are coated twice. If you like it extra sweet, sprinkle the sides with cinnamon sugar now.
- The Sizzle: Preheat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter for each slice.
- Cook: Place the rolls in the skillet. Cook until the egg is set and the roll is a beautiful light brown, then flip and cook the other side.
- Make the Spread: While the toast cooks, mix the room-temperature cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Serve: Remove from the skillet and drizzle or spread generously with the cream cheese topping.
Notes
Tammy’s Pro-Tips
- Watch the Heat: Because of the icing and the cinnamon sugar, these can brown very quickly. Keep an eye on your skillet and turn the heat down if they are darkening too fast.
- The Best Bread: Using thick, gourmet cinnamon rolls is what makes this "Master Cookbook" quality. They hold up much better to the egg wash than regular bread!
- Room Temp is Real: For the creamiest spread, make sure your cream cheese and butter are truly at room temperature before mixing,it makes a world of difference for that smooth texture.
