Chocolate Cream Pie - Master Cookbook Recipe # 443

This Chocolate Cream Pie is a beloved favorite, known for being even richer and fudgier than traditional old-fashioned recipes. By using a clever microwave method, you get a perfectly smooth, decadent custard without the constant stovetop stirring. It’s the ultimate comfort dessert that pairs beautifully with a crunchy cookie crust.

This is recipe #443 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 tbsp. salted butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) no-bake pie crust (Oreo or Graham Cracker)
  • Whipped topping or sweetened whipping cream (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe glass batter bowl, use a wire whisk to thoroughly mix the dry ingredients: cornstarch, sugar, salt, and cocoa.
  2. Gradually add the milk and evaporated milk, whisking constantly until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  3. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes.
  4. Remove the bowl carefully and whisk the mixture thoroughly to ensure there are no lumps.
  5. Return to the microwave and cook in 2-minute intervals, whisking well after each interval, until the mixture has become thick and creamy.
  6. Once thickened, remove from the microwave and immediately stir in the vanilla extract and salted butter. Continue to mix until the butter is completely melted and incorporated.
  7. Pour the warm chocolate mixture into your prepared no-bake pie shell. If you have extra filling, pour it into small bowls to enjoy as pudding cups!
  8. Allow the pie to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until fully set.
  9. Top with whipped cream or your favorite topping before serving.

Notes

Tammy's Tips: This is my favorite chocolate pie because it is fudgy and richer than Granny’s chocolate pie, give them both a try and put a star next to your personal favorite! When microwaving, keep a close eye on it during the final intervals to make sure it reaches that perfect "pudding" thickness without bubbling over. For the best slices, make sure the pie is completely chilled before you add your whipped topping.
