Turkey Parmesan Sandwich - Master Cookbook Recipe # 589

This Turkey Parmesan Sandwich is a delicious twist on a classic Italian favorite. By using smoked turkey and adding marinated mushrooms, you get a depth of flavor that is truly special. Cooking the mushrooms right in the same pan with the sandwich allows them to soak up a little butter while the mozzarella gets perfectly melty and the bread turns a beautiful golden brown.

This is recipe #589 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.

Ingredients

  • Deli smoked turkey slices
  • 2 slices thick-sliced loaf bread
  • Marinated mushrooms
  • Mozzarella cheese (sliced or shredded)
  • Pizza sauce or marinara
  • Grated Parmesan (optional)
  • Salted butter

Instructions

  1. Prep the Bread: Evenly butter one side of both bread slices. Flip them over and spread your favorite marinara or pizza sauce on the non-buttered side.
  2. Layer: Add the smoked turkey slices and a generous amount of mozzarella cheese onto the sauce-covered side of the bread.
  3. Start the Sizzle: Place the bread slices, butter-side down, into a pre-heated non-stick pan over medium heat.
  4. Sauté the Mushrooms: Add the marinated mushrooms to the empty space in the pan. Let them sauté right alongside the sandwich as it toasts.
  5. Cook to Golden: Continue cooking until the bottom of the bread is golden brown and the cheese has started to melt beautifully.
  6. Assemble: Remove the bread from the heat. Carefully pile the sautéed mushrooms onto one side of the sandwich, then close it up.
  7. Serve: Cut diagonally into two triangles and enjoy while the cheese is nice and gooey!

Tammy's Tips

Using thick-sliced bread is key here because it holds up well to the marinara sauce without getting soggy. If you want an extra savory kick, sprinkle a little grated Parmesan onto the buttered side of the bread while it's in the pan,it creates a wonderful "Parmesan crust" on the outside of your sandwich!
