Southern Praline Cake, Tammy's - Master Cookbook Recipe # 257
This Southern Praline Cake is a decadent, buttery masterpiece that tastes like a slice of the Deep South. The cake base is rich and velvety, flavored with both vanilla and butter extracts for an extra layer of indulgence. When paired with browned butter icing and pecans, it mimics the flavor of a classic pralines candy in cake form.
This is recipe #257 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted butter, room temperature
- 2-1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp butter extract
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1-1/4 cups milk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Cream: Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a stand mixer, beat the room-temperature butter for 2 minutes. Add the granulated sugar and continue mixing until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Combine: Incorporate the eggs one at a time, blending thoroughly after each addition. Mix in the baking powder and salt.
- Mix Batter: Add the flour and milk alternately to the mixture. Once all ingredients are in, beat the batter on medium speed for exactly 2 minutes to ensure a perfect, sturdy crumb.
- Bake: Pour the batter into 3 greased and floured cake pans, making sure not to fill them more than 3/4 full. Bake at 350°F until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Assemble: Allow the layers to cool completely. Ice the cake using Master Cookbook Recipe # 258 (Browned Butter Icing).
Notes
Tammy's Tip: "To get that true 'Praline' experience, don't forget the topping from Master Cookbook Recipe # 258! A warm caramel drizzle and a generous coating of toasted chopped pecans on the sides really turn this into something special."
