Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground chuck
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 shakes Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 8 oz ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • Hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat: In a large skillet, brown the ground chuck along with the chopped onion and bell pepper over medium-high heat.
  2. Drain: Once the meat is fully cooked and the vegetables are soft, drain the excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Simmer: Stir in the garlic, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, and sweet pickle relish.
  4. Thicken: Turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
  5. Serve: Pile the mixture high on hamburger buns and serve immediately.

Tammy's Tips

The secret to a great Sloppy Joe is that sweet pickle relish,it adds just the right amount of tang to balance out the savory beef. For the best experience, I love to serve these for a quick supper alongside a big bag of Lays Potato Chips! If you have leftovers, the meat mixture tastes even better the next day on a toasted bun.
