Ingredients

  • THE PATTIES:
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 sleeve Saltine crackers (crushed)
  • 1 pkg Lipton onion soup mix
  • 5 to 6 shakes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp roasted garlic powder (Badia recommended)
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Hamburger buns and butter (for toasting)
  • THE GLAZE:
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Mix the Beef: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, eggs, crushed saltine crackers, onion soup mix, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Shape: Form the mixture into 6 even hamburger patties.
  3. Fry: Preheat a skillet over medium heat and add about 1/4" of oil. Fry the patties until they are well-done and no pink remains in the center. Cooking time will vary based on thickness.
  4. Toast Buns: While the burgers cook, butter your hamburger buns and toast them until golden brown.
  5. Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and onion powder. Microwave for 1 minute to melt the sugar and meld the flavors.
  6. Assemble: Place the cooked patties on the toasted buns and top generously with the warm meatloaf glaze.

Tammy's Tips

Using Saltine crackers instead of breadcrumbs gives these burgers that authentic meatloaf texture we all love. Make sure your skillet isn't too hot,you want to give the burgers enough time to cook all the way through to well-done without burning the outside. That little bit of roasted garlic powder really makes the flavor "pop"!
