Ingredients

  • 10 oz package mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 8 oz pack chopped dates
  • Powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Dry Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Rice Krispies cereal, chopped pecans, and chopped dates. Stir them together so the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Melt and Whip: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly.
  3. Get the Gloss: Once the marshmallows have melted, use a whisk or a slotted spoon to "whip" the mixture until it transforms into a glossy, candy-like consistency.
  4. Combine: Pour the hot marshmallow mixture over the dry ingredients in the bowl and stir thoroughly until everything is well coated.
  5. Cool and Shape: Let the mixture cool slightly. Transfer it onto parchment paper. Butter your hands (to prevent sticking) and shape the mixture into walnut-sized balls.
  6. Sugar Coating: Roll each ball in powdered sugar. To remove any excess, place the balls in a gallon zipper bag and give them a gentle shake.
  7. Serve: Store in an airtight container and enjoy!

Tammy’s Tips

The secret to a perfect Hum-Ding is in the whipping! Don't just melt the marshmallows, make sure to whisk them until they get that beautiful glossy sheen. Also, don't forget to butter your hands well before shaping; it makes the process so much easier and keeps the sticky mixture on the treats instead of on you!
