Ingredients
- 1 lb. Breakfast sausage
- 12 cups Stuffing (6 cups cornbread & 6 cups herb-seasoned)
- 2 large Sweet apples (cored and chopped)
- 1 cup Fresh cranberries (chopped)
- 2 stalks Celery, chopped
- 1 small Onion, chopped (or 1/2 cup chopped green onion)
- 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) Butter
- 4 cups Hot water
- 2 tbsp. Chicken bouillon granules
Instructions
- Brown Sausage: Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a large skillet, brown the breakfast sausage, breaking it apart well as it cooks.
- Sauté Veggies: Once the sausage is browned, add the butter, chopped onion, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Prepare Broth: In a separate bowl or large measuring cup, whisk the hot water and chicken bouillon granules together until dissolved.
- Combine Ingredients: In an extra-large mixing bowl, combine the dry stuffing mixes, chopped apples, chopped cranberries, and the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture. Toss well.
- Moisten: Pour the 4 cups of bouillon broth over the stuffing mixture and stir until the liquid is evenly distributed.
- Bake: Transfer the mixture into a well-greased, large lasagna-sized baking dish. Bake for 40 minutes until the top is golden and the flavors are set.
Notes
Pro Tips -
- Cranberry Prep: Using a small food chopper for the cranberries makes it easy to get them to the perfect size so you get a little tartness in every bite.
- Choose Your Apple: Use a firm, sweet apple like Honeycrisp or Gala so they hold their shape and don't turn to mush during the baking process.
- Check for Moisture: If you prefer a very moist dressing, you can add an extra 1/2 cup of broth before baking, but 4 cups is usually the "sweet spot" for this amount of stuffing
