This is recipe #520 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.
Ingredients
- 6 to 8 Chicken legs (drumsticks)
- 1 cup Self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup Salted butter (melted)
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1 tsp Paprika
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Temper the Meat: Remove the chicken from the refrigerator 1 hour prior to cooking. This ensures even baking.
- Season the Flour: In a gallon-sized storage bag, combine the self-rising flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Shake to mix.
- Butter Coat: In a separate bowl, coat each drumstick thoroughly with the melted butter.
- Dredge: Place the buttered drumsticks into the flour-filled bag and shake until well coated. Be sure to shake off any excess flour before placing them on the pan.
- Bake: Arrange the legs on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake at 425°F for 1 hour.
- The Golden Secret: When there are 30 minutes left on the timer, briefly remove the pan and spray the chicken well with cooking spray. This helps the flour coating turn a beautiful golden color.
- Serve: Don't worry if there is a little flour still visible on the outside, these are meant to be rustic and delicious!
Notes
Tammy’s Tips: There's no need to rinse your chicken, the high oven temperature takes care of everything! If you want them extra golden, that spray of oil at the halfway mark is the real secret. These drumsticks are wonderful with a side of creamed corn or a fresh garden salad. They may not be the "prettiest" chicken legs you've ever made, but I promise they'll be some of the tastiest!
