Ingredients
- THE SPECIAL SAUCE:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
- 1 1/2 Tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp white wine vinegar
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- THE BURGER ASSEMBLY:
- Thin hamburger patties (cooked)
- Hamburger buns (including middle bun layer if desired)
- American cheese slices
- Shredded lettuce
- Diced onions (fresh)
- Dill pickle slices
Instructions
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, white wine vinegar, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder until smooth.
- Marinate: For the best flavor, cover and refrigerate the sauce for at least 2 hours. Overnight is even better to let those spices really meld!
- Prep the Buns: Spread a generous amount of your homemade sauce onto the bottom buns (and the middle bun if you’re going for the full "double-decker" style).
- Add Veggies: Top the sauced buns with a sprinkle of freshly diced onion and a handful of crisp shredded lettuce.
- Layer: On one sauced layer, place a slice of American cheese. On the other, add your dill pickle slices.
- Assemble: Place your hot, thin-cooked burger patties on top, stack the layers together, and get ready to dive in!

Tammy's Tips
The real secret to this burger is the marinating time for the sauce, don't skip it! It transforms from a simple mayo mix into that iconic flavor we all love. For the most authentic experience, keep your burger patties thin and get a good sear on them in a hot skillet. It’s much better than the drive-thru and so much fun to make with the family!
