Ingredients
- 1 whole Chicken (boiled, meat removed and reserved)
- Reserved Chicken broth (from boiling)
- 10.5 oz can Cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Garlic salt
- 5 large Carrots, washed, peeled, and quartered
- 5 med/large Potatoes, washed, peeled, and quartered
- 1 whole Onion, peeled and chopped
- 1/3 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups Milk, cold
Instructions
- Boil & Season: Bring your reserved chicken and broth to a boil in a large pot. Stir in the cream of chicken soup, salt, pepper, and garlic salt until well combined.
- Add Vegetables: Add the chopped carrots, potatoes, and onion to the pot. Simmer on medium-high heat until the vegetables are fork-tender.
- Thicken: In a separate small bowl, whisk the flour and cold milk together thoroughly until no lumps remain.
- Finish: Gradually pour the milk mixture into the pot, stirring constantly. Increase the heat slightly and continue to cook until the broth reaches a thick, creamy consistency.
- Serve: For the ultimate Southern experience, serve this hearty chicken and gravy over fresh, open-faced homemade biscuits.

Tammy’s Tips
When prepping your vegetables, try to cut your potatoes and carrots into uniform sizes so they all finish cooking at the exact same time. The real secret to this dish is the homemade broth, so make sure you save every bit of flavor from boiling your chicken! If you want an even richer gravy, you can use whole milk or even a splash of heavy cream when you do your thickening step.
