Baked Beans, Stovetop - Master Cookbook Recipe # 639

These Stovetop Baked Beans are a lifesaver for summer cookouts and family picnics. By skipping the oven, you keep your kitchen cool while still achieving that deep, slow-baked flavor. Starting with crispy bacon, sautéed peppers, and onions creates a savory base that transforms a simple can of beans into a rich, buttery side dish that tastes like it's been simmering all day.

This is recipe #639 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 20 oz can Original baked beans (look for no artificial pork flavoring)
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 4 slices Bacon, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Onion, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp Bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp Salted butter
  • 4 Tbsp Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Add the olive oil to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped bacon, bell pepper, and onions.
  2. Crisp the Bacon: Stir frequently and cook until the bacon is perfectly crispy and the onions are golden brown.
  3. Combine: Stir in the baked beans, BBQ sauce, and butter.
  4. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent the beans from sticking to the bottom of the pan as the sauce thickens.
  5. Serve: Serve warm as the perfect side to burgers, hot dogs, or BBQ chicken.
