Asparagus, Sauteed - Master Cookbook Recipe # 686
This savory side dish is a Collard Valley Cooks favorite that brings out the natural sweetness of fresh asparagus with a rich, buttery finish. By sautéing the stalks in a combination of olive oil and salted butter with a hint of garlic, you create a tender, flavorful vegetable that complements any home-cooked Southern meal.
This is recipe #686 in Tammy’s Master Cookbook.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch fresh asparagus
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp salted butter
- Fresh garlic (minced) or garlic spread
- 1 tsp Mrs. Dash Original (or your favorite spice blend)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Asparagus: Wash the asparagus thoroughly. Snap off the woody ends by hand, they will naturally break at the point where the stalk becomes tender.
- Heat the Skillet: Preheat a large, flat skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté: Add the olive oil and butter to the skillet. Once the butter is melted, add the asparagus stalks.
- Season: Stir in the minced garlic (or garlic spread) and your favorite spice blend. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook: Sauté the asparagus on medium heat, tossing occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and tender.
- Serve: Remove from the pan and serve immediately while hot.
Notes
Tammy's Tip: For the best flavor, I always recommend using fresh garlic, but a garlic spread works in a pinch and adds a nice richness! When sautéing, keep an eye on your heat to make sure the butter doesn't brown too much, keeping those veggies looking bright and delicious for your Collard Valley Cooks table.
